Club Background & Officers

Our Chapter:

The Emporia Charter Chapter was chartered June 30, 1977.  It has a current membership of 12 members in a variety of occupations.

This chapter has given over $62,000 to various causes; $42,000 in scholarships to local area women; and, $20,000 to various community organizations.

Because of these efforts, we received the 1998 Golden Rule Award given by J.C. Penney, Inc.  Focusing on the needs of others and taking action to meet those needs has made a tremendous impact on education for women and the community as a whole.

Our History:

The Emporia Charter Chapter of American Business Women's Association is a member of a national educational association which was established in 1949 and includes over 100,000 members.

National membership entitles each member to several opportunities, including a magazine published by the national headquarters, Women in Business.

Member Awards are earned by individual members for sponsoring new members into ABWA.  The "Hand of Friendship" is awarded for sponsoring two new members.  The "Inner Circle" award for membership is presented after sponsoring eleven new members.

Chapter Awards include the Standard of Achievement, Banner Chapter, and Star Awards.  These are awarded by fulfilling a number of qualifications within an award year.

The Emporia Charter Chapter earned the Banner Award its first year, an award for which some chapters strive for several years.
